STATESVILLE, NC - Two West Virginia men were arrested on drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop on Interstate 77 Wednesday.
Steffon Derick Burks, 31, and Aaron Michael Johnson, 43, both of Huntington, W.Va. were charged with trafficking in cocaine.
Iredell County Sheriff Phil Redmond said the Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) team stopped a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban on I-77 north near the 64 mile marker for a traffic violation.
Because of the behavior of the occupants, a drug-sniffing canine was used to check the exterior of the vehicle, and the dog indicated the presence of narcotics, Redmond said.
A search of the Suburban revealed two one-kilogram packages of cocaine in the engine compartment, Redmond said.
