Footprints lead to larceny suspect

TROUTMAN, NC - Deputies literally followed a trail of footprints from the scene of a breaking and entering to the home of a suspect.
Jason Eric Houston, 27, of Troutman was charged with misdemeanor larceny, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Iredell County Sheriff Phil Redmond said deputies answered a call on Fern Hill Road around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
The victim told deputies someone took a 100-foot piece of electrical wire from an an outlet in his outbuilding, Redmond said.
Deputies found a set of footprints in the mud and snow, and they followed the prints for about 300 yards along the power lines in the direction of Carlyle Road, Redmond said.
They followed the prints to the back yard of a residence on Jasmine Circle, Redmond said.
Sgt. Troy Miller and Deputy Mark Cook spoke with Houston, who was wearing work boots. The boots were compared to the prints in the snow and they matched, Redmond said.
A large bucket of rolled up copper wire was found inside Houston's home, Redmond said.
Electrical wire is frequently stolen to be stripped for the copper inside, Redmond said.
Deputies also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the house, Redmond said.
