Lake Norman's softball team opened the season on a tear, winning its first six games.
The Wildcats (6-0) knocked off powerful North Mecklenburg 1-0 last Friday in their I-Meck Conference opener.
"They're supposed to be the best team in the conference," Lake Norman coach Bob Hall said. "They are a good team. … It was a home game for us. It could have gone either way, one hit either way, and that could have been a different game. (Kayla Pine) pitched a great game. She pitched her heart out."
Pine is one of two stellar sophomore pitchers who returned to Lake Norman's lineup this season. Stacey Houser is the other.
Lake Norman features only two seniors, and it starts four freshmen.
"We've got a lot of talented girls on this team," Hall said.
