STATESVILLE, NC - A Claremont teen is facing a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after authorities said he encouraged a 15-year-old girl he met online to leave school.
Paul Lee Solomon II, 18, of Claremont was arrested on the charge Tuesday night.
Detective Sgt. Errin Jenkins of the Iredell County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a call on Feb. 25 at a residence on Stevenson Farm Road. The residents told Deputy Brandon Johnson that they came home and saw a young man running from their house. He got into a car and left, authorities said.
Deputies investigated and learned the family's 15-year-old daughter had brought the young man to the house.
Jenkins said she met Solomon online and he picked her up at school that morning and had been with her most of the day.
Family members provided Jenkins with the name Paul and a cell phone number. Jenkins said, through a court order, he obtained the name of the owner of the phone and, through that, traced it to Solomon.
Jenkins said it was learned that Solomon, a student in a Catawba County high school, was absent from school on Feb. 25.
As a result of the investigation, Jenkins charged Solomon for aiding the girl in skipping school.
He was released to his parents.
