Not on our turf.
Boys' and girls' track and field teams from host Mooresville High sent just that kind of message during the first full-field meet of the spring season this week.
The two squads each made their home presence known by fashioning first-place finishes.
The girls' team combined enough individual firsts with a number of team-event top placements to racked up 93.5 points.
As for the boys, the Devils made the most of team relay races on the way to collecting 100 points for top team honors. Other schools participating were Lake Norman, North Mecklenburg, Kannapolis A L. Brown and Concord J.M. Robinson.
It was Mooresville's first of five home meets this season.
In the girls' meet, Aisha Cannon led the way for Mooresville by winning the long-jump and triple jump. Tasha Stewart won in discus and Elizabeth Rodes captured the pole vault. Also winning was Mooresville's 400-meter relay team.
Second-place finishes were notched by Stewart in the shot put, Tiffany Phifer in the 100-meter dash, Holly Vilagos in the pole vault and the Lady Devils' 800-meter relay team.
For Lake Norman, the Lady Wildcats checked in second with 85 points, boosted in large part by Jenny Gallagher. She led all the way in winning 1,600-meter and 800-meter runs. Teammate Kelsie Rubino took first in the 3,200-meter run.
On the boys' side, the relay races are where the Devils really stood out. The host team captured the 400-meter, 800-meter and 3,200-meter relays.
On a solo basis, Kyle Shano topped all comers to win the pole vault while teammate Isaiah Johnson placed first in the long jump.
Second places for Mooresville came from Jazz Samuel in the 400-meter dash, Sam Joffe in the 800-meter run and Kendrick Johnson in the high jump.
Lake Norman fashioned a distant runner-up finish with 59 points.
Mooresville's track and field teams are back in competition Saturday at the Marvin Ridge Invitational.
