Former Concord High teacher charged with sex offenses with students

EDITOR’S NOTE: It is important to note that the suspect, Christopher Nathan White, is not the same person as a current Cabarrus County Schools employee with the same name.

A former Concord High School teacher was charged Monday with two counts sexual offense of student, officials said.

Christopher Nathan White, 36, of 5322 Forest Hill Drive, Harrisburg, was also charged with statutory sex offense. White turned himself in to the Concord Police Department on Monday morning after an investigation that began in October, Concord Police Department Major Allen Overcash said.

White was being held at the Cabarrus County Jail on a $25,000 bond and his next scheduled court appearance is set for Tuesday, Nov. 15.

White left Concord High School after the 2004-05 school year.

“To my knowledge he left on his own and just had another job that interested him,” Overcash said.

White was charged after two victims contacted the Concord Police Department, stating the incidents occurred during the 2004-05 school year. The two victims were age 15 and 17 at the time of the offenses, according to a Concord Police Department news release. The students say the incidents occurred toward the end of the school year, Overcash said.

When asked if the incidents occurred at the school or off campus, Overcash declined to comment. He said it was too early in the investigation to release any specifics about the location of the incidents.

Overcash said detectives are continuing to investigate the case and will see if there are any other victims.

“It’s always possible there are more but we charged him with the two victims that we are aware of,” Overcash said.

White is no longer a teacher in the Cabarrus County school system. Overcash said White was currently teaching at a private school in Mecklenburg County. White listed his current employer as Back Creek Christian Academy, which teaches kindergarten, to 8th grade, according to the school’s website.

Ronnye Boone, public relations director, Cabarrus County Schools, said White began his employment with the school system in August 2004 and ended his employment with it in June 2005. He was at Concord High School during that time. He also returned to the system as a substitute teacher for three and a half days in 2008, but he was not a full-time employee.

“Cabarrus County Schools was deeply troubled to learn about these allegations,” Boone said. “Our school system is committed to protecting each and every child enrolled in our schools. We do not tolerate such behavior from our employees and will investigate all such claims fully.”

She added that White has not been an employee of Cabarrus County Schools for several years and there was no prior knowledge to any alleged incidents before the Concord Police Department investigation.
