A love of animals, and the thought of people not being able to care for their pets, prompted Mooresville eighth-grader Dillon Kosofsky to organize a pet food drive.
A student at Mount Mourne IB School, Dillon selected Friends of the Animals as the beneficiary of his community service project.
As part of the drive, Dillon set up decorated boxes to collect dog and cat food at five locations in Mooresville. All food will be given to Friends of the Animals who will ensure it is distributed to those in need.
“There has been an increase of owners surrendering their pets to local shelters due to economic hardship,” said Patrice Reynolds, executive director of Friends of the Animals. “By providing people with the food to feed their pets, they may be able to keep their “furry family member” safely at home.
“We applaud Dillon for his efforts to make a difference in the lives of local families by helping them keep their pet at home.”
If you would like to help Dillon reach his goal of collecting 100 bags of pet food, you can drop off your donations to Village Paws and Claws, Brawley Animal Hospital, Lake Norman Animal Hospital, Lakewood Animal Hospital or Village Animal Hospital.
Friends of the Animals is a non-profit organization created to promote responsible pet ownership, provide low cost spay-neuter services, and promote the adoption of homeless pets. It plans to build an adoption and education center to serve the greater community .
