Door 'still open' for rail project, backers say

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Red Line commuter train project is still alive and well, insist its proponents.

Despite this week’s unanimous vote of non-support by Iredell County commissioners, backers of the proposed passenger/freight train that would run between Charlotte and Mooresville are looking at Iredell’s action more as the commissioners’ desire for additional information than as a definitive “no” to the project.

On Wednesday, the Red Line Task Force released a statement saying that it will address financial and other business-plan questions raised by the Iredell commissioners.

“At the Tuesday meeting, the Iredell Commissioners passed a resolution saying they did not support the current draft plan in its current form and asked for more information regarding potential commercial and real estate developers that are expected to invest in the corridor,” the statement said.

“The Task Force will provide information responsive to those questions, as it will for the ongoing review by the other participating jurisdictions.”
